Travelling
New page to add some personal views of comparisons between countries we are travelling through.
Should have been done at the start (aka my Aunt Bright!) but better late than never!
Not sure how it will evolve but please feel free to send some suggestions or questions to this address
Standard Breakfast - 2 x coffee's, 2 x poached eggs with toats or similar
Costa Rica
US$ is used for anything more than a cup of coffee and the rate is about 500 colones to the US$. (Cafe
latte was 1700 colons)
Close to my heart ........ Beer and Wine prices!
Beer's good, US$3 for a can in the hotels but just US$1 in the shops. "Ïmperial" is the local brand so
far.
Wine - our highest cost here in CR with bottles at 20 - 40,000 colones (plus) but then the restaurant here is
one of the best in San Jose. Still cheaper than Ireland ........
But food! Not the cheapest but certainly in this hotel, very high quality.
Petrol
Panama
Their currency and the US$ are interchangeable, a legacy from when the US looked after "the canal zone"
US$8 for a beer, wine much as above. In shops the beer was much better, just over US$2 as far as I
remember! Wine same as CR
Peru
Petrol 11- 13 new soles at 2.8 to the US$ (not fixed but standard rate of exchanged used for tourism)
Beer in Hotel
More to follow!
South Africa
Std breakfast R18, best in Mug and Bean!
Beer - Happy Hour in Simon's Town R10 or €1.50 a pint.
America
Wine at $30 plus in most resaurants but a €18 in Ireland costs about $16 here
