Peru
- arrival
Saturday 17th April
We arrived in Lima yesterday afternoon
and after our "orientation" talk, went off out for a quick meal and got a
lot more than we bargained for - a whole two hour show based on Peruvian folk stories (similar kind of slant as
Riverdance) all for free. There were only about 8 dancers and five band but the enthusiasm! It was a
great and totally unexpected evening and a very good start to this part of the trip. The clothes as well,
loads of reds and whites and masks and frills - all very well done.
Lima seems a lot more cheerful than
Buenos Aires but perhaps that is because the sun is out! We talked about the difference and agreed that
Buenos Aires seems very "closed" or insular - friendly all right, but no English papers at all, just
Spanish stuff. The part of the city we were in was all fairly narrow streets and six floor buildings,
lovely old ones, but when there are clouds around everything seems a bit dull.
Anyway, today we are off to the boat on
the Amazon. Two links below describe what the trip is meant to be and the second is the google link to
where we start from:

Don't think there will be too much Internet in the Jungle but will
update when we get back here (Lima) on 26th.
Bye for now, hugh
